Because Sound Matters one-step vinyl pressing. Pressed at RTI on Neotech VR900-D2 180g high-definition vinyl. Numbered, limited edition - first pressing limited to 6,000 copies!
"Purple Rain" was recorded, mixed and mastered on analog tape, including some live performances recorded at First Avenue in Minneapolis. Only one ¼" EQ'd analog master tape was ever supplied to Warner Bros. by Prince - a clear indication that this was the source he ALWAYS wanted to use for the production.
After 40 years, Because Sound Matters didn't want to take the risk of additional wear and tear on this iconic tape, as multiple one-step playbacks would be necessary - so they used an original 192kHz / 24bit file transfer, as opposed to a more recent 96kHz / 24bit update. They listened to and analyzed many different vinyl LP pressings. Most of them sounded very good, but what they achieved was to surpass the sound of the original 45rpm 12" pressings of the singles. Not an easy task considering the length of the sides of "Purple Rain", and the result was the best sounding version of this iconic record of all time.
One-step vinyl is the ultimate vinyl pressing. Because Sound Matters' meticulous one-step process creates the ultimate sounding, audiophile version of Prince's classic "Purple Rain". 192kHz / 24bit files transferred from the original EQ'd analog master tapes were used to ensure that "Purple Rain" has never sounded better!
The first pressing of this one-step version is limited to 6,000 copies. The album is housed in a high quality, uniquely designed and numbered slipcase. The accompanying LP comes with an "old style" single pocket tip-on jacket with original artwork, including the original inner sleeve and poster.
Special care has been taken to preserve the original sound with exceptional clarity and depth, capturing the nuances and subtleties of the recording at every step to create the best sounding record possible. The one-step process is highly regarded among audiophiles and collectors for its unparalleled fidelity and represents the pinnacle of vinyl craftsmanship.
